The aim of the conference is to create a safe and open space for discussion on innovative and positive solutions for European cities. The event will provide an opportunity to exchange experiences, present research findings, broaden knowledge in the field of urban planning and related sciences, and create a forum for discussion and the opportunity to make valuable contacts. The event will be conducted in English and attendance is free of charge.

Four thematic panels are planned:

• From Planning to Practice: Ensuring Urban Accessibility: a panel on research and solutions aimed at improving accessibility and inclusivity.
• Empowering Communities: Technology as a Catalyst for Change: a panel on research and technological solutions improving the functioning and quality of life of city residents.
• Nature as a Solution: Building Resilience and Biodiversity: a panel on research and solutions related to environmental protection, climate adaptation, biodiversity, Nature-based Solutions, green logistics and the circular economy.
• Fostering Unity: Sustainable Development Strategies: a panel discussion on research and solutions relating to the implementation of urban and supra-regional strategies aimed at improving

On March 18–19, 2026, Dr. Anna Batorczak participated in the international symposium “Universities as Change Agents in Sustainable Development.”

The main organizer of the event was Tallinn University, and the co-organizers were the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, SustainERA, and the Baltic University Programme.

The symposium aimed to highlight the role of the academic sector as a tangible and measurable agent of change for sustainable development—going beyond scattered initiatives and purely theoretical discourse.

Over the course of two inspiring days, academics, researchers, and representatives of non-governmental organizations from many countries in Europe and beyond had the opportunity to explore diverse approaches to education on sustainable development and its implementation in the academic sphere and through cross-sectoral collaboration.

The event also created a space for establishing new partnerships that may in the future lead to the co-creation of effective strategies to fully harness the potential of universities in addressing the most pressing environmental, social, and economic challenges of our time.

In her presentation titled “Studying Sustainable Development – experiences from the University of Warsaw,” Dr Batorczak shared UCBS’s experiences in implementing international studies dedicated to sustainable development.

We are excited to announce that the Green Economy Festival will take place in Parma, Italy, from April 14th to 19th, 2026. This prestigious event will bring together leading Italian and international experts in the field of the Green Economy, alongside prominent entrepreneurs and some of the most authoritative journalists in the sector.

Among the confirmed guests for this edition are world-renowned figures such as:

• Pavan Sukhdev – Environmental economist, President of WWF International, and winner of the 2020 Tyler Prize and the 2016 Blue Planet Prize.
• Guenter Blöschl – Hydrologist and recipient of the 2025 Stockholm Water Prize.
• Timothy Palmer – Physicist and climatologist at the University of Oxford.

Academy Grant (Scholarship)

• We are offering 300 grants for selected university students. The grant covers:
• Accommodation for the entire duration of the stay (options from 3 to 6 days).
  Meals (lunches and dinners).
• Transfers to and from the companies during the Study Tour.

(Please note: Travel expenses to/from Parma are not included.)

We believe this could be a valuable educational experience for your students, allowing them to network with peers and professionals from across Europe.

We would like to inform our students about a new English-taught course offered by the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw, starting in the summer semester:

This is the first time the course is offered in an English-language format. The course is available in USOS as an elective course and may be of particular interest to students of Sustainable Development and related programmes.
