This year’s Earth Day is celebrated under the theme “Our Power, Our Planet.” It serves as a reminder that while climate challenges are global, the power to take action lies within our local communities and our daily choices. In 2026, we no longer ask “if” we should act, but “how” we can do it most effectively.

Why Your Power Matters
We often feel overwhelmed by the scale of environmental changes. However, it is the sum of our “small powers” that creates great change. Our power consists of:

• Awareness – Understanding that the Earth’s resources are finite.
• Technology – Using renewable energy and digital tools wisely to protect nature.
• Solidarity – Working together to keep our forests, rivers, and air clean.

How We Are Celebrating This Year
As part of this year’s celebrations, we encourage you to take three simple steps:

• The Power of Repair: Instead of buying new, give objects a second life. Visit a local repair shop or participate in a clothing swap.
• The Power of Nature: Plant pollinator-friendly flowers on your balcony or in your garden. Support biodiversity in your immediate surroundings.
• The Power of Conservation: Analyze your water and energy consumption. Every kilowatt saved is a real gain for the planet.

The aim of the conference is to create a safe and open space for discussion on innovative and positive solutions for European cities. The event will provide an opportunity to exchange experiences, present research findings, broaden knowledge in the field of urban planning and related sciences, and create a forum for discussion and the opportunity to make valuable contacts. The event will be conducted in English and attendance is free of charge.

Artykuł Focus on Cities International Conference 28–29 May 2026 pochodzi z serwisu University Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development.

The event was attended by over 40 students from 19 countries, who had the opportunity to meet with representatives from academia, non-governmental organizations, the private sector, and partner institutions..

The aim of the event was to strengthen the link between academic learning and professional practice, as well as to foster collaboration between students, alumni, employers, and institutions working in the field of sustainable development. Participants had the opportunity to learn about current sustainability initiatives, exchange experiences, and discuss emerging challenges and opportunities for future cooperation. The meeting also highlighted the achievements of UCBS graduates, many of whom are now recognised experts and practitioners in the field, demonstrating how academic education and real-world experience can work together to drive positive change. The event featured speakers representing both national and international organisations:

Artykuł Pre-Welcome Days 2025 online pochodzi z serwisu University Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development.

The BUP is pleased to announce the fourth edition of the Master Thesis Training (MTT). This event is an opportunity for master students to join an interdisciplinary and intercultural environment. Participants will receive supervision from an expert on their thesis, develop connections with students from all around the Baltic Sea Region and become better acquainted with academic perspectives.

The Master Thesis Training will take place on 24-27 March 2025 in Uppsala.

The event will accept participants from BUP participating universities who are studying towards a master’s degree and are working on their thesis during the spring term of 2025. The content of the thesis should be within sustainability science and from a Baltic Sea Region perspective. The Master Thesis Training will be held with a main focus on-site in Uppsala, however, there will also be a limited number of spots for online participants who are not able to attend in person (e.g. priority for online participation will be given to Ukrainian male students who can’t travel).

Previous editions of the Master Thesis Training have been highly rated by those who participated, receiving a rating of 9.2/10 in both 2023 and 2024 with students remarking that the event was helpful for them in improving their thesis. 

The deadline to apply is 26 January 2025.
